NIKE MVPuppets Kobe and LeBron

Here is one of the many videos that Nike has made in a way to predict the two for runners for NBA MVP.

Doglover

Doglover is this 12 or 13 year old girl that used to post facebook videos of herself lipsyncing to popular songs. She took herself so seriously, but the funny part was that she always had wet hair and was wearing some ratty old tee shirt.

The videos have been posted for two years and most have over 10 million views.

Comments and embedding are disabled. I think people used to say really mean stuff about her, so she turned the comments off.

Doglover--Nobody's Perfect

She doesn't post the videos anymore, but the girl's name is Jordan Gatlin. She's grown up a lot and now she has a facebook fan page.

All the single ladies

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsJ2SS6Bq2A

I thought this video is really funny, a chubby man trying to act like Beyonce when she sings the song, Single Ladies. It's also interesting to see that he seems very confident and has many videos posted on youtube of him dancing on songs similar to this one. His moves bring out the humor and make it seem like a joke even though he might not realize it.
I chose this picture because i thought it was ironic and funny. We have read a few articles on Lindsay Lohan and this picture just further makes fun of her. She is unable to party in a low key manor which has gotten her in a lot of trouble.

I'm on a Boat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avaSdC0QOUM

This YouTube video sensation went viral a little over a year ago. The video is a parody of the themes that appear in hip hop songs. Rap artist T-Pain also is also in the video which contributes to the parody, and also makes it even more hilarious.

Kate Middleton

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GCKHuoVhWk

In the video, Kate is played by artist Chenille Steele who sings a song about how she longs to marry Prince William, but has ulterior motives for doing so. This is representative of half of the media storm surrounding their engagement- where they believe that she does not have the right background to become royalty and that the only reason she wants to marry him is to become a princess.

Black Bush

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlwk8rh425Y&feature=related

This piece is about Dave Chappelle making fun of Bush Political Power(as he do many other celebrities). He is showing America how it is funny all the problems that bush is faced with and how he handles them. Chappelle is know for pointing out the obvious and he uses it as a punch line for his bits.

Snooki Monster

In the hilarious "It's a Jersey Thing" episode of South Park, they spoof the women from the Real Housewives of NJ and the Jersey Shore cast. The portrayal of "the Snooki" is especially entertaining because it combines all of the things the real Snooki likes to do: drink, smoke, wear slippers in public, eat pickles, and smoosh, but she has the body of a tan kangroo-ish beast. While the spoof is insulting to the young "star" she had a sense of humor about the whole thing and tweeted after the episode, "Snooki want smoosh smoosh. I'm going to have nightmares lmao!! we've officially made it."

Lip-synching YouTube legend, Keenan Cahill, has quickly wracked up over 66 million views on YouTube, appeared as a guest on Chelsea Lately, and performed a YouTube duo with 50 Cent. Cahill's viral success began with his release of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," which has received 19 million plus views and can be found below. Cahill has a rare genetic disorder called Maroteaux Lamy Syndrome, which in some cases, including Cahill's, results in individuals developing a dwarf-like appearance. It's curious why his videos have gained such popularity, but regardless of his audience's interest, the 16-year-old is reveling in his new found fame and has become known for his videos at his high school and throughout the world.

Sarah Palin Spoof

This video is a clip from the Jimmy Kimmel show. He comments on the release of the information that Sarah Palin has a new reality show, and in the clip he presents what is supposed to be a trailer for Palin's show but is just a spoof making fun of her.
I chose this clip not only because it's humorous, but also because it criticizes and highlights the shift/trend for politicians to attempt to become these pop culture celebrity figures - more acknowledgeable for public stunts and TV shows, rather than a clear political agenda.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3YFjSBVbyE

I chose a CBS news coverage of fans trying to break the record for the most people to do Michael Jackson's Thriller dance at once. Apparently, breaking the Thriller record has become a popular event around the world and now has a Guiness World Record of 1800 people which beat the 2009 record of 1300 people. His famous song and dance acts as a way for fans to feel more like a celebrity because they can be famous for gathering together and dancing it. The Dance is also popular in wedding receptions and highschool drill team dances which can be found all over youtube.

He is known as alphacat on youtube im guessing that he is an impersonator/comedian/actor/fan/whatever else. From what I have seen he makes various videos in which he impersonates Barack Obama, and he also makes videos and parodies of various artists/celebrities.

L.A.R.P. Live Avatar Role Playing

This video mockingly pays homage to Avatar.

Lost + Jersey Shore

This video explores what would have happened if the Losties landed on the Jersey Shore. I thought this was funny because it takes a really serious show and combines it with a not so serious reality show. I've never seen Jersey Shore so I don't know if the Jersey Shore characters are portrayed accurately, but I can say that the Lost characters and references are really good.

Glozell

Glozell has gotten millions of hits on YouTube by picking apart songs and using video to explain her interpretation of the lyrics. Her interpretations are comedic, but generally a wrong interpretation of the song lyrics. She has done a number of different songs and is favorite of mine.

Video by Keenan Cahill. This person has made a variety of videos lip syncing various songs by different artists. In this particular video, rapper 50 Cent accompanies him in making a video for the song Down On Me. Keenan has become well-known to YouTube users by making his videos ridiculously funny since he doesn't really know the lyrics to any of his chosen songs.

A fan visits Graceland

This video demonstrates a fan's commitment to visiting Graceland and documenting his experience. The piece functions as both an homage to what the fan perceives as Elvis's legacy and a piece that allows the fan, in a strange way, to figure his own identity in terms of his love for Elvis.

3.1 Assignment

1. My principal claim is that shows like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom show the harsh realities of teenage pregnacy and motherhood and discourage rather than glamorize it. I'm using information from the stars of the show themselves, executive producers of the show and other critics. I want the audience to be aware that there is much more behind the scene struggles of teenage pregnacy.
2. In a professional entertainment/TV blog like TIME
3. The audience is educated may have set beliefs regarding the issues but is open to different opinions. While some of the audience may have seen the show before, it is not aimed at teenage fans.
4. By presenting multiple arguments and credible sources about teenage pregnany and the MTV shows.
5. A source that has opinions and quotes from MTV exectutive producers show the intensions and goals of the show despite how some people may interpet them.
6. This sort of evidence is appropriate to the venue where I want my argument to appear because the audience will want some background on the issues surrounding the show and to hear professional opinions (not just thoughts from the shows fans).
7. With an overview of my claim and its main criticism, then a background of the show and each of the "teen moms," evidence to support my claim and then the other criticisms and opinions.
8. By addressing the main opposing argument and showing how it is a false claim.

paper 3 Disney is a joke

1. My main principal claim in paper 3 is that because of the sexualized pop culture today, female stars that are exposed to Hollywood culture at a young age, particularly Disney channel stars, eventually fall into the typical media portrayal of women in effort to gain approval from a broader audience and gain more fame, and because this has been a common theme for many years now, we can expect this to happen. I will be evaluating celebrities such as Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Demi Lovato and Disney’s criteria and standards they set for their young actors/actresses. This includes certain symbols and rules that they expect their stars to withhold such as no underage drinking, conservative attire, purity ring, etc. I want my audience to see both sides: how Disney’s attempt to create appropriate media and character images for today’s youth but also how this attempt includes extreme expectations and isn’t realistic as well as societies ridiculous outrage on the issue due to the fact it is a common theme and can most likely be expected. I want my audience to stop blaming the person/actress and try to understand how surrounding factors/environment might have helped because their rebellious acts.
2. I am doing my paper in an article format and will appear in Jezebel.com and on their website
3. My audience is women of ages ranging from 18-50 that follow celebrity news, gossip, and fashion. Most will be familiar with Disney channel star gossip events such as Miley Cyrus “can’t be tamed video and most recent, Demi Lovato checking into rehab. They will be aware of the issues/controversies involved with these stars and already have an opinion formulated.
4. As a credible source I will use credible information/sources, and I am very knowledgeable on the issues I want to focus on. I will represent myself as savvy while mocking almost locking Disney for the unrealistic expectations they give their actors and actresses but I won’t be completely one-sided. It will be amusing because it addresses the popular/recent media outbreak in a different way.
5. For evidence I am using articles, blogs, and pictures on the celebs I am evaluating. One thing I am using is an apology statement from Miley Cyrus on her controversial vogue cover; it supports my argument in saying she felt she had to do it, emphasizing pressure from the media Hollywood expectations of a budding female star. Also, I am using quotes from other former Disney channel stars such as Justin Timberlake who express their feelings toward Miley and how they relate to her and the “Disney curse.”
6. This sort of evidence is appropriate to the venue where I want my argument to appear because it fits the genre of “celebrity, sex, and fashion” and backs up my argument.
7. I plan on arranging my evidence by incorporating both sides of the argument in the beginning and then backing up my argument with strong evidence and supports in the last few paragraphs.
8. To anticipate arguments from those who disagree I plan on giving credit to Disney in its’ efforts to create a wholesome, family channel, but refute its’ extremity in this area. In other words, I don’t completely bash Disney as a whole but give it credit in the areas I believe worthy and express my opinion in areas and their policies I think are bad.

Paper 3.1

1. What will you make your principal claim in Paper 3? Whom or what are you evaluating? What criteria are you using? After reading this argument, what do you want the audience to believe, feel, or do?
I'm evaluating a Newsweek article entitled "Straight Jacket" where the writer says gays can't play straight roles. I'm going to try and disprove his argument and after reading it i want the audience to feel like the Newsweek article was nonsense.

2. Where will this argument (your argument for Essay 3) appear? In what newspaper, magazine, on what blog, website, etc.?
My argument will appear in a blog on salon.com.

3. Based on the venue, what do you know about the audience? Do they fit a certain demographic? Do they tend towards a belief or a set of beliefs about the issue? How knowledgeable are they about the issue?
The audience will have read the Newsweek article and disagreed with what it had to say. The audience will also have knowledge of pop culture.

4. How will you present yourself as credible, savvy, trustworthy, amusing, etc?
I'm going to site a lot of sources and use counterexamples.

5. Look at one of your pieces of evidence. How does it support your argument in terms of whether your subject (whom or what you are evaluating) meets or falls short of your chosen criteria?
I took one of the examples the author mentions, reevaluate the example, and use it to rebuttal the authors original statement.

6. Complete one of the following statements:

In my paper I will use examples of homosexual celebrities who have managed to successfully portray a straight role as evidence. This sort of evidence would likely convince my audience because the author of the original article argues that there are few examples of successful gay actors.

7. How will you arrange your evidence?
My evidence will be arranged in the same order that they appear in the article that i am arguing against. The strongest example is put first.

8. How have you acknowledged or anticipated arguments from those who would disagree with you?
I acknowledge the authors argument then offer a counterexample to prove it false.

Pre-paper 3 exercise

1. My principal claim is the relation of sports and politics, and how sports are no longer a game but instead more so become more about economic principles. I am evaluating various athletes and athletic careers. The criteria I am using involves the down falls of athletes and media. I would like the audience to have an understanding and see how sports has changed and that sports are more about the athletic industrial complex and money.

2.
I’m thinking possibly a newspaper or magazine not sure which ones.

3.
I feel that the audience would be a sports fan or have some kind of knowledge and or background in sports. Also know some of the history of the sports and the whole economics piece behind it.

4.
I am hoping to demonstrate some existing knowledge on the subject, savvy, credible…

5.
Some of my evidence deals with psychologists and their evaluations of the male athlete in terms of narcissism. Also what’s depicted in the media and the coverage of athletes.

6.
In my paper I will use scholarly articles as evidence. This sort of evidence would likely convince my audience because that what’s being quoted and or talked about throughout the paper is reliable because of the courses that its coming from and being provided by

7.
I have not decided fully but I think I will start off with the medias depictions, and how it helps perpetuate the behavior of athletes, then go into egotism and narcissism, followed by the effects of these things on actual athletes, and the whole economic thing.

8.
Yes I figured a lot of people will be against the views expressed in the paper and I am okay with that.
